Shocking photos of some mentally ill people

Pasung is the word which was used in Indonesia describing restrained or restraints, banned in the 70s. But it is still vividly used in Indonesia where mental illness is considered to be taboos. Concerned about these people’s plights, Andrea Star Reese a photographer from New York spent an entire year investigating and gathering information about conditions of Indonesia’s mental health facilities for making a documentary named “Disorder”.

She says walking inside the facilities were easy but leaving it was very tough as the conditions inside were frightening.
